Rebel Wilson’s weight loss- how did she do it?

Rebel Wilson, the Australia-born Hollywood’s acclaimed actress, is known for her iconic roles in the comedy genre such as Fat Amy in the Pitch Perfect series and many more. In the year 2020 Rebel publicly announced that 2020 is going to be her “Year of Health”. However, tackling her emotional eating disorder and dealing with PCOS and fertility issues at the same time made her journey quite difficult.

She was, however, able to lose 77 pounds over 2 years and is still maintaining it. The best part is that Rebel was able to hit her goal weight i.e. 165 pounds or 75 kilograms in 11 months (i.e. one month earlier than the end of her Year of Health) due to her relentless efforts!

Read along to find out how she conquered her weight loss journey and much more.

Rebel Wilson’s early life and career struggles

Rebel Wilson has had a fair childhood. Rebel says she always had an athletic figure. However, it wasn’t until when she turned 20, that she started to gain weight.

That’s when Wilson discovered that she suffers from Polycystic ovary syndrome, something that “made it harder for her than an average person to lose weight”.

Rebel, on the other hand, was not particularly phased by it. Being quite a bright student, she went forward to complete her law degree. But her love for acting compelled her to act in the local theaters as a side gig. Rebel eventually decided that she wanted to pursue acting as a career.

Although her mother was skeptical of her choice, she ended up supporting her in her decision.

But landing a role in Hollywood was not easy. Being 5’3″ in height and weighing above 200 pounds did not work in favor for her. She was only limited to comedy roles because she was “probably double the size and sometimes triple the weight of other actresses”. When she started gaining attention for her comedy roles, Rebel was so caught up in work that it kept her from focusing on her health or losing weight for 20 years!

What was the turning point/ motivation to get healthy in her life?

“It first started when I was looking into fertility stuff, and the doctor was like, ‘Well, you’d have a much better chance if you were healthier‘, but I was so offended to hear that because I thought I was pretty healthy!” said the Bridesmaids star in an Instagram live in July 2021.

“That’s kind of what started it, that if I lost some excess weight that it would give me a better chance for freezing eggs and having the eggs be better quality. It wasn’t even really myself; it was more thinking of a future mini-me, really.

She also added her goal has always been to get healthy overall, “It’s not like I want to lose weight and get to around a certain number. It’s more than that, it’s about dealing mentally with why I was overeating, and I had a job where I was paid a lot of money to be bigger, at times which kind of can mess with your head a bit.”

That’s why on her 40th birthday, Rebel made a big announcement on Instagram, “Okay so for me 2020 is going to be called ‘The Year of Health.’ “

Why did Rebel make her weight loss dream public?

“I decided to share on Instagram that I was declaring 2020 my ‘Year of Health’ because I did want to make a lasting change and I wanted to be accountable for it. Making it very public kind of helped, but it was risky, I guess. Before I had lost weight and put it back on, and you get criticism sometimes for that.” Although a risky move, publicly announcing her goal made Rebel more committed to her weight loss journey.

What was Rebel’s past relationship with food?

Inspiring weight loss stories of the famous and the common

Rebel, despite being very confident, has struggled a lot with emotional eating. She knew she had a problem that needed to be addressed.

I knew deep down inside that some of the emotional eating behaviors I was doing [were] not healthy. Like, I did not need a tub of ice cream every night. That was me kind of numbing my emotions using food, which wasn’t the healthiest thing.” She admitted in her interview with the BBC in 2020.

“I think it was dealing with not being a natural performer and having to perform every day and that pressure and internal stress to be able to perform like that.”

In an interview with Drew Barrymore, Rebel stated that she was having 3000 to 4000 calories per day and since most of her meals were carbs, she was not really satisfied. She also added “I never really focused on my health, which was probably obvious. I was going all around the world jet-setting everywhere and eating a ton of sugar. That was kind of my vice. I have a very sweet tooth. I love desserts.”

How was the response after she announced taking care of herself?

While many fans supported her decision, the star Fat Amy of the Pitch Perfect franchise received backlash from her team.
“I got a lot of pushback from my own team actually, here in Hollywood, when I said, ‘OK, I’m going to do this year of health. I feel like I’m really gonna physically transform and change my life,'” Recalled Rebel in her BBC interview.

“And they were like, ‘Why? Why would you wanna do that?‘ Because I was earning millions of dollars being the funny fat girl and being that person.”

But, regardless of what others thought, Rebel was ready to lose all the weight that had become problematic for her.

Rebel Wilson’s weight loss journey- how she lost 77 pounds

In 2020, Rebel decided to join an Austrian wellness retreat, where she met a doctor who guided her to the right path.

Wilson says,” An Austrian doctor said ‘Rebel, the best way for you to lose unwanted body fat is just simply walking. Doesn’t have to be high-intensity, doesn’t have to be uphill, just moderate walking an hour a day. And if you can do that, for you, for your body type, it’s, like, the best way to lose unwanted body fat.'”

At first, she wanted to try if she can do the whole deal at once, “I would train at the gym, you know even when I was at my heaviest, like hardcore and do weights and do things where you just feel absolutely exhausted afterwards, and I didn’t actually need to be doing that.”

That’s when she decided to save some grace for her body and take things slowly, “It just made me think: ‘OK I should take it a bit easier on myself, and just do it gently and do it lightly.’ So in 2020, I lost weight but very, very gradually. Sometimes I kicked things up a notch with some workouts and went hard. But, the majority of the work for the year was just doing things like walking for an hour.”

Not only this, Rebel gained quite a lot of attention when she showed people how to do strength workout on a yacht in 2020.

She posted a video of herself on Instagram, doing an arm/ upper body workout with a nearly 10-pound vodka bottle! “Basically we’re just gonna work the biceps,” Wilson says in the video as she begins with a round of biceps curls, one of the best moves for building a strong upper body. She truly doesn’t take a vacation as an excuse to stop working out.

Rebel Wilson now goes to the gym 6 to 7 times a week and does cardio, HIIT, strength training, and mobility exercises. However, walking for an hour is her all-time favorite exercise!

What changes did Rebel Wilson bring to her eating habits?

Inspiring weight loss stories of the famous and the common

Rebel has reportedly signed up for Mayr’s method to lose weight. This unique diet restricts all gluten and dairy products and nixes all sugar and caffeine for a complete detox. It also requires you to have only 3 meals a day (no snacking!) with breakfast being the heaviest and dinner the lightest. Moreover, you are bound to have raw foods before 3 p.m. and cooked foods after that.

A typical meal plan according to the Mayr method is

Breakfast:

  • Quinoa porridge
  • Fruits (lots of it!)
  • Spelt bread

Lunch:

  • Soup with fresh veggies OR
  • Fish or any other meat with fresh vegetables

Dinner:

  • Fish or lean meat with cooked vegetables

The Pitch Perfect star says she “feels so much healthier now” and at present, she has a flexible approach towards everything.

“It doesn’t mean every week is a healthy week. Some weeks are just write-offs, and there’s nothing you can do about that.” said Rebel to PEOPLE.

“I’m just trying to go for overall balance, overall healthy balance. I have this state of being, which is not my quote, but I go ‘Nothing is forbidden.'” Rebel continued

“We’ll be like, ‘Should we get an In-N-Out burger?’ And I’m like, ‘Nothing is forbidden.’ I can go there, I just might eat half of what I used to eat before. You know? And I’ll have a burger, and a few fries, and then you feel fine.”

What would you advise people after losing weight?

“I would encourage everyone to focus on their health first,” said Rebel.
Sometimes the simplest thing like getting out and walking for an hour a day is the kindest thing to your body, and your body will respond to that.

Later, in a BBC interview, Wilson says, “I’m proud that the message has gotten across that it wasn’t just about losing weight, it was just about me being healthier overall. That’s what I’m trying to encourage other people out there…that should be the goal, not to fit some sort of beauty standard that society deems is the beauty standard of that year.

The takeaway

Your focusing on health does not require everybody’s approval. You should focus on your goal and work hard for it with the dedication to excel others. You should always believe in yourself and accept your body in every way. Also, age is just a number. There is no restriction on any age to get healthy. You do you and let others watch as you conquer!

Tiffany Haddish weight loss- how did she do it?

Tiffany Haddish is an acclaimed comedian in Hollywood who is known for her witty nerves and unflinching honesty. However, achieving her big break was NOT easy for her. She had her fair share of ups and downs, due to which she developed food insecurity. This led to her weight gain and made things difficult for her.

Regardless, the best part is she took hold of her life and lost an astounding 50 pounds approximately over a year and a half! Read along to find out more about her struggles and the ways she used to manage them.

Tiffany Haddish’s early life and career struggles

Inspiring weight loss stories of the famous and the common

Tiffany Haddish had a difficult childhood. Her father left her family when she was just a toddler. And to make the matter worse, she along with her 4 siblings was placed in foster care after her mother suffered a brain injury in a car accident. Moving from one home to another was difficult for her. However, the only thing that kept her going was making others laugh. That’s why she decided to make a career out of it.

But was it easy for her?
No.

She had to live in a car during her struggling days. Tiffany also had to involuntarily become a vegetarian because a Taco Bell bean burrito was all that she could afford. She also had to eat fruits from others’ trees so she wouldn’t have to pay for it, “When I was homeless, I ate from people’s pomegranate, passion fruit, and orange trees.”

Tiffany also mentioned in her interview with ESSENCE “Food insecurity is a real thing for me, something I’ve lived through most of my existence.” That’s why when she got her big break in 2006, she started eating mindlessly.

What motivated her to lose weight?

In 2019, Tiffany seriously injured her meniscus (a cartilage present in the knee) which pushed her to vow to get in shape once and for all.

Tiffany told ESSENCE, “I was having a hard time getting around, then I was like, ‘Okay, she gon’ eat better. She gon’ treat herself better. We’re gon’ do better, period.”

In another interview with PEOPLE, Tiffany recalled that she had set her eyes on the one and only Olympian Florence Griffith Joyner for inspiration, “I had this thought in my mind that I want the body of Flo-Jo!”

Tiffany Haddish weight loss journey: how she lost almost 50 pounds

Tiffany started her weight loss journey by giving up on an ill habit i.e., smoking. It was a hard time for her. But the Girl’s Trip star focused all her energy on her workout.
I’ve been eating like it ain’t nobody’s business,” she admitted to Ellen DeGeneres in October 2019. “To counteract that, I started working out on the fourth of July.”

In December, Haddish told People she had lost 40 pounds in 2020 after weighing in at 182 pounds on her birthday a year before. This was a big feat for the 41-year-old comedian!

Haddish loves working out and would sneak in little activities here and there. “I prefer to do stairs, like if I’m in a tall building I like to go up and down the stairs.”

Her motivation to get fit now is through the roof! In an Instagram live, Tiffany revealed that she was waking up at 2 a.m.(!) to get her workouts done. She focuses on plyometrics, cardio, and strength training mostly.

The dietary changes Tiffany adopted

Tiffany is a hardcore foodie. In Harper Bazaar’s 2020 issue, Tiffany admitted that she wants to focus only on food when she is eating, “I don’t mind anybody talking to me, but if I’m eating, that makes me mad because I have a serious relationship with food.”

This is why giving up on old eating habits was not easy for her. She admits, “I figured if I’m going to do a transformation, I’m going to challenge myself all the way around.”

Tiffany remains committed to her health goal.
“I’ve been eating differently, eating way more vegetables, definitely eating directly out of my garden and just really putting in the work, making sure I sweat every single day, and staying up on nutrition. Nutrition is everything,” she told PEOPLE.

The diet she followed for her weight loss is
Breakfast: A smoothie of Swiss chard, kale, celery, and strawberries (all harvested from her garden!)

Lunch: Salads in summer.
(In cold weather) Pastrami sandwich, Red bean soup, or chicken soup.
Grilled red snapper fish is her all-time favorite lunch item.

Snacks: Almonds, apples, oranges, and dried apricots. Her favorite trail mix is dried apricots and almonds. “I am gonna launch it as a Tiffany mix!” says the comedian.
But this is not it.
Her favorite snack is dill pickle.
Hands. Down.
Her unconventional toppings for this snack are a whole new ball game!
“I love a good dill pickle, the big ones that they sell in the big jars. You take a bite off the top part, and then you put a Now and Later or a Jolly Rancher or a peppermint in the middle. When I tell you delicious flavors to savor, it’s so damn good.”

Dinner: Steak (beef or chicken) with a side of vegetables.

How did a personalized program help her?

Inspiring weight loss stories of the famous and the common

After losing 40 pounds by herself, she signed herself up for the 30-day fitness program training, due to which she lost an additional 10 pounds! Now, her focus is on building muscles

“Started my @30daytransformationteam program three days ago and look, I think I see ABS…”, Haddish wrote on Instagram.

She told PEOPLE that she is satisfied with her weight.
“I’m very skinny, it’s going good,” she said of her progress in 2020 “I don’t really want to lose any more weight. I want to now just sculpt it all, sculpt off the fat so I can get to the muscle. The goal is to have abs by New Year’s Day!…”

Her 30-day transformation program requires her to go completely vegan. Though it has been frustrating for her, Tiffany got the grip of the diet, “They gave me this whole vegan menu, meals, and stuff, and so I’m cooking for myself.” She also focused on green juices to supplement her body. Though she admits that maintaining the routine has been “super hard” for her.

What initiatives were therapeutic to Tiffany in the weight loss journey?

Tiffany Haddish has partnered with the Why Hunger and Pico-Union Project to help the poor and hungry people get access to food. This keeps her motivated to work for the betterment of herself and everyone around her.

“Gardening] is another way to feed the soul, to heal the soul,” she said to ESSENCE.

“We deal with a lot of trauma, a lot of pain. I think it’s genetically passed down, all the fears of your parents, you absorb all of that. I feel like when I’m in that garden, a lot of my pain goes away. A lot of how I feel about things are resolved. I feel like gardening is magic. I feel like we’re magical people. To be able to take a little seed, just like a thought, plant it, water it, give it the nutrients that it needs, watch that thing grow, and then it, be able to feed you, is so powerful.”

The nutritious food she grows in her garden has made her connected to the environment. It has made her spiritually and physically better than before.

The takeaway:

It is not easy to get over a difficult past. Having faced food insecurity issues surely messes up your mind. But it is you who can get hold of yourself and make a positive change. Start small and keep going. Do not let your age stop you from achieving your dream weight goal. Heal your body and trust me, in the process, you will surely heal yourself.

How to lose weight: Jarred lost 235 pounds in 18 months due to devotion

Name: Jarred Aslett
Age: 33
Starting weight: 480 pounds
Current weight: 245 pounds
Duration took to lose weight: 18 months

Jarred Aslett, a common man of Idaho, has truly become an inspiration for all due to his drastic weight loss. The amount of effort and dedication he puts in every day of his life is truly inspiring. Getting to know him better will only make you realize how far Jared has come solely through his dedication.

What was your dream behind weight loss?

Inspiring weight loss stories of the famous and the common

“When I first wrote my goals to lose weight the topmost of it was PCT”, Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail is a 2,650-mile trek along the length of the West Coast.

“The PCT was such a bizarre idea … It was something I wanted to do. But it wasn’t something that was concrete or something I even believed that I could”. But Jarred worked for it every day and after losing almost half of his body weight, he is training to start his hike in March!

What was the turning point in your life?

“It was when my ex dumped me and I had stopped doing the things I loved”, Jarred loved snowboarding, hiking, and surfing but his excessive weight made it too difficult for him.

“I was depressed and hated the person I have become. I only had 1 fight left in me, for Sheila (my dog). I knew I had to do it for myself and for her.”

One event that you can specifically recall from the time before?

“One thing about me, even at the size I was, I always tried to be the life of the party, a friend recently sent me a picture of our trip to Texas…” Although his friend has fun memories of the trip, Jarred specifically remembers how he felt at that time.

“I remember things about that trip that stopped me from truly having the best time I could. Things most people don’t think about. Dreading the flight because I was worried my size would make others uncomfortable. Hoping the flight attendant just knew and gave me an extender so I didn’t have to ask. Googling how far away things were when people said where they wanted to go because I needed to know how far I was going to have to walk…

“My feet hurting from standing and walking for days so I’m always eyeing a place to sit. Nobody else knew what I was thinking or dealing with, because I hid it by being the life of the party. But that’s not living.

Who was your support through the weight loss journey?

“When I first started losing weight my close family were the only ones that knew… On day one I decided to change, I texted my brothers. My older brother told me to meet him at the gym in 30 minutes. He took me to the grocery store right after.”

“My younger brother told me that I have to make my mental health a priority and gave me a number to a therapist. I called and made an appointment that day, and still see her monthly. (All I can say is) don’t be too afraid or too proud to ask for help. I did. Forever grateful for the family I have.”

What changes have you made to your habits and lifestyle?

  • First of all, Jarred quit overdrinking alcohol. “A lot of my weight gain came from drinking, that was just drinking to escape reality,” he explained in an interview with TODAY, “I never quit completely, just got it under control.”
  • He also purchased a gym membership immediately. However, it was quite hard for him. “I used to be an athlete, too… but the first time in the gym was very emotional when it hit me how far I had let myself astray.” However, this did not stop Jarred. He started going to the gym five times a week and targeted different muscle groups each day.
  • He started walking his dog every day, “We just walked a mile and that would be good. Now we’re doing 4 or 5 miles a day, no problem, and I take her on hikes on the weekends.”
  • The pandemic did not stop him from working out. “At the beginning, I was doing a lot more cardio,” Aslett said. “Once I started working out, we went into lockdown so I built a home gym in my garage and 90% of the weight I’ve lost was done in that home gym with just very basic things I had.”

What were your eating habits before and now?

“I wasn’t a binge eater or anything like that. I was just eating all the wrong things. I was eating just convenient meals, like frozen pizzas or macaroni and cheese, or fast food. (After starting the weight loss journey) I started counting my calories and the whole time I didn’t do a specific diet — it was just a calorie deficit.”

His eating habits for weight loss included high volume low calorie foods. Such foods are mostly fruits and vegetables or others for instance potatoes, elk beans, lentils, cauliflower, oatmeal, yogurt, leafy greens, chia seeds, etc.
His meals for weight loss are simple and calorie calculated.
